It felt as if a knife had been twisted in his gut, seeing his mother leave for work every day. “24 hours is all I got, and I will find a job,” Anand said aloud as he left his small hut, which was their home in Mumbai’s biggest slum, Dharavi. He went to the station, carrying one hundred rupees in his pocket. The ticket to Parel would cost 7 rupees, leaving him with 93 rupees to see the day through, and it was his last money.
